Learn To Ride Program









Have you wanted to try horseback riding but are not sure that you are ready to commit to weekly lessons?

Hideaway offers a Learn to Ride class for both adults and children once per month on Saturday mornings.  The cost is $25 per person.

Learn To Ride Lesson Schedule:

Will be offered again in Spring 2016

Horses will be tacked up and ready to ride when you arrive.  We have an indoor arena and several outdoor arenas available to use.  We will hold the classes rain or shine.  In the event of inclement weather we will ride in our indoor arena.  The lesson will last approximately 45 minutes.  

A reservation is required to reserve your spot. Space for each session is limited to 10 riders.  Payment can be made online via our website.  In the payment notes, please note the date of the session you are paying for and which class (child or adult) you are registering for.  Payments are non-refundable, however if you provide us with at least 48 hours notice that you will not make the session, we will allow you to apply the payment towards a future session.  All participants are required to sign a riding release.

Scout Badge Program








COST 
• Horse Fan Badge - $30 per person, 10 person minimum
• Horse Rider Badge - $40 per person, 10 person minimum

DATES 
• Dates are flexible (weekdays and weekends) and are scheduled at your convenience when instructors are available

Horse Fan Badge
Approximately two hours, the horse fan badge focuses on safety, building confidence, and cultivating respect for horses. Students participate in an interactive demonstration where they learn:

• Safety 
• Grooming and Tack 
• Saddling 
• Horse breeds, colors, and Uses 
• Horse Care and feeds 
• Beginning equitation 

Horse Rider Badge
The horse rider badge stresses a “hands-on” horse experience. Our program is geared to riders with a general understanding of horses and offers the next level of training for your girl scout. This clinic includes:

• Etiquette and safety 
• Basic horsemanship 
• Saddles and fitting 
• Bits and bridles 
• Conformation & Horse Anatomy 
• Nutrition and care 
• Horse careers 

The Girl Scout Horse Rider badge program is approximately two and a half hours long and expands on the information learned in previous lessons (horse fan program). After a thirty- minute discussion, instructors will teach and assist riders as they groom and saddle their own horses. During the session, scouts will perfect their control of their horses and refine their horse riding skills during their riding lesson.

After School Program
(Ages 6-17)

                                    Hideaway offers an After School Program                                     Monday-Friday from 3:30pm to 6pm.                                     (Aftercare can be provided from 6pm-7:30pm                                     for an additional $20 per day.)

                                    The is $45 per day and includes the following:
                                       -Group horseback riding lesson 
                                       -Supervised study time 
                                       -Internet access so that students can finish
                                         homework (students must bring their own
                                         laptops/tablets to use)

Transportation from schools within a 20 mile radius of Hideaway can be arranged for a small fee with a minimum of 4 students signed up.  
Aftercare can be provided from 6pm-7:30pm for an additional $20 per day.

Students will be divided into group lessons based on age and skill level. This is a great way for students to participate in a fun, safe, and structured after school activity. Please email [email protected] for additional information. Enrollment is always open!

Homeschool Program (Ages 5-17)


Fall Session starts October 28th/29th! 
There's still time to join!

Hideaway Horse Center is now offering a lesson group for students that are homeschooled. Lessons run in 8 week blocks and are approximately 1 1/2 hours long. They will meet at the same time each week and be with the same group of students. Students are placed in classes according to age and ability. Horseback riding lessons are very social as well as physical. They learn about coordination, giving and following directions, and mastering challenges. They learn to handle assignments themselves or order essay online in case of emergency.  Classes help build new friendships, human and equine. It is also a great way for homeschoolers to get your PE credits!

2015/2016 SCHEDULE
Each session will meet on either Wednesdays from 1-2:30pm or Thursdays from 12:30-2pm.  






Students must wear long pants (riding breeches or jeans), boots with 1/2 inch heel, and helmet when riding.  We have some riding helmets available to borrow, but students are encouraged to bring their own. Dover Saddlery and Maryland Saddlery in Crofton, MD have riding apparel for sale.


Birthday Parties

$350 for 1 horse 
$400 for 2 horses
$450 for 3 horses 

​Birthday package includes 1 hour of horseback riding time and 4 hours of room rental time in our heated lounge area where you can decorate, eat cake & ice cream, open presents, etc. 

Sample Birthday Party Schedule:

6pm Depart

Children can ride as many times as they want during the 1 hour of horseback riding time.  A $200 nonrefundable deposit is required along with the completed contract at least 2 weeks prior to your scheduled date. These parties are for children.  Adult attendees do not get to ride. 



Field Trips


Our field trip program gives 
participants a "hands-on" horse experience.  
All groups and ages are welcome age.  
Our field trips are geared towards 
beginners and includes:

Horse Anatomy
Horse Nutrition & Care
Tacking & Grooming
Mounting & Dismounting
Steering & Basic Riding Skills

Fieldtrips last approximately 2 hours. All participants will have the chance to ride a horse.
